Throughout the last few weeks, Marvel directors such as
James Gunn
and
Joe and Anthony Russo
have been very active on social media, joining fans for virtual Marvel movie watch parties and answering their burning questions. Peyton Reed, the director of
Ant-Man
and
Ant-Man and the Wasp
, has become the latest filmmaker to join in on the fun by responding to a thread of fan questions on Twitter. The writer and director is
currently working on
Ant-Man 3
, and he may have just dropped a hint about the return of an
Ant-Man and the Wasp
villain.

Peyton Reed recently responded to a fan’s question on Twitter asking if audiences should expect to see any more of Walter Goggins, the actor who played black-market technology dealer Sonny Burch in
Ant-Man and the Wasp.

WHAT THIS MEANS
It seems as if fans may not have seen the last of the sweet-talking, vaguely Southern restaurant owner after all. Burch and his cohorts were arrested at the end of the film, but given that he had powerful connections within the FBI, there was no way he would remain imprisoned forever.
Sonny Burch represented the larger consequences of Pym’s technology, hinting at a much darker corner of the Marvel Universe that would stop at nothing to possess Pym’s advanced scientific innovations. As
Ant-Man and the Wasp
largely dealt with a very personal conflict for Hank Pym, Peyton Reed may have used Burch as a way to plant the seeds for the future direction of the
Ant-Man
franchise. With M.O.D.O.K. and AIM
being featured in a previous draft
of the
Ant-Man 3
script, the Marvel threequel might be gearing up to feature a slew of villanious scientists and organizations who come out of the shadows to steal Pym’s technology. Or maybe Peyton Reed just has a fun cameo planned.
