for the film, it was certainly encouraging to see that those plans are well underway at Marvel Studios.

One of the most surprising parts of
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’s
confirmation was the official casting news that came along with it;
Avengers: Endgame
’s MCU freshman Emma Fuhrmann had been
recast as Cassie Lang
, with the role now being played by actress Kathryn Newton. As an internet storm began to brew,
Newton took to Instagram
to share her excitement over this shocking news, and now Fuhrmann has offered a statement on the matter.

In a pair of tweets, actress Emma Fuhrmann
acknowledged the
“kind messages”
she says she has received after hearing the news that she had been recast as the MCU’s Cassie Lang for
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
. Furhmann added that although she was
“as sad as [fans] were to hear the news,”
that she
“can only hope that this means there is something else for (her) in the future of the MCU.”
Just wanted to come on here & say that I see all your kind messages❤️ Thank you for all your support. It has meant the world to me. I was as sad as you all were to hear the news Thursday. I can only hope that this means there is something else for me in the future of the MCU. /1
Fuhrmann then
went on to add
that she
“will always be grateful to have been a part of the MCU and the biggest movie of all time.”

WHAT THIS MEANS
This message from Emma Fuhrmann is sweet, and certainly comes from the heart. As much as this appears to be a farewell to her fans, though, these tweets may also be directed towards the people who cast her as Cassie Lang to begin with.
Fuhrmann said that she heard the news
“on Thursday,”
meaning she found out that Kathryn Newton would be taking over the role of Cassie Lang the same day it was announced to the public at Disney’s Investor Day. There’s been no indication that Fuhrmann was ever officially in talks to return as the MCU’s Cassie Lang to begin with, and the fact that she didn’t know about her recasting until the rest of the world did probably means she hadn’t been in communication with anyone at Marvel Studios for while now. So, the common assumption that Fuhrmann was taking over the role long-term may have just been an assumption that was too quick for Marvel Studios to get ahead of.

These are strong indications that Furhmann was only meant for a single-film appearance in
Avengers: Endgame
, but that’s not going to make her any less missed by the fanbase. Many fans (myself included) accepted Fuhrmann into the role immediately, as her two short scenes in
Endgame
left a warm and lasting impression. And if Marvel Studios does take Fuhrmann up on her tweeted offer to fit somewhere into the MCU’s future, she will surely be welcome back by fans everywhere.
Looking forward, though, fans will get to see a third actress in Kathryn Newton take on the MCU’s Cassie Lang in
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which is now rumored to be eyeing a 2022 release.
