Cyberpunk 2077
has only been out a matter of weeks, and it seems that everything that could go wrong has gone wrong.

Though CD Projekt Red
assured
gamers in the lead up to the game’s release that its console versions were coming along quite nicely, that did not seem to be the case.

A class action
lawsuit
has been filed by global investor rights law firm Rosen Law Firm against CD Projekt Red in relation to their mishandling of
Cyberpunk 2077’s
launch.
The lawsuit filed was on behalf of purchasers of the securities (investors) of CD Projekt S.A. (OTC: OTGLY, OTGLF) between January 16, 2020 and December 17, 2020 (the Class Period). The suit states that:
[The] Defendants (CD Projekt Red)… made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that: (1) Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to an enormous number of bugs; (2) as a result, Sony would remove Cyberpunk 2077 from the Playstation store, and Sony, Microsoft and CD Projekt would be forced to offer full refunds for the game; (3) consequently, CD Projekt would suffer reputational and pecuniary harm; and (4) as a result, defendants’ statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages.
Lawyers are seeking an undisclosed amount of damages for investors.

WHAT THIS MEANS
As for what all this legal jargon means? It clearly indicates that CD Projekt Red’s problems are just getting started. A suit such as this is just for the investors of the Polish development studio. If another class action were to be put forward on behalf of the gamers who purchased
Cyberpunk 2077
on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, it would not be all that surprising.
It is sad to see the once heralded studio being dragged through the streets like CD Projekt Red currently is. This suit coming to light,
the recent outcry of disgruntled employees at the studio
, and the removal of
Cyberpunk
from Sony’s digital storefront are all massive hits on the studio’s reputation.
Though CD Projekt Red has previously talked of expansion content and multiplayer
for their new RPG, fans should not expect those any time soon, if ever. This has been a complete disaster so far, and it looks like the reckoning will only continue. The game was simply not ready for prime time - at least on last-gen hardware.

Gamers should not be shocked if news were to come out that the
Cyberpunk
team were to outright cancel work on the last gen version and focus further development only on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. While it would be a massive loss for the company, it might be the right thing to do.
