Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is well and truly underway. Multiple new productions are filming all around the world including
Thor: Love and Thunder
and
Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Sandwiched in between these two projects in the release schedule is the second solo outing for Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sorcerer Supreme.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
is
currently filming in the UK
after an unscheduled production break thanks to the pandemic. The sequel has already seen
a director shuffle
with Scott Derrickson leaving to be replaced with Sam Raimi.
WandaVision
fans will also be excited to know that Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch

Unlike some
other Marvel films in production right now
,
Doctor Strange 2
has been kept largely under wraps, but it seems a new costume may be in the Doctor’s future.
NEW COSTUME TEASED FOR DOCTOR STRANGE
In a recent article,
Discussing Film
reported that one of their sources has hinted at a new costume for Benedict Cumberbatch in the
Doctor Strange
sequel. The source claims that the crew of
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
have designed a new, comic accurate look for Doctor Strange. No further details about the costume were provided within the report.
It should be noted that Benedict Cumberbatch
has grown out his facial hair for the
Doctor Strange 2
production
, perhaps to better fit this comic-accurate look. Previous MCU roles like
Doctor Strange
and
Avengers: Infinity War
didn’t require Cumberbatch to grow a goatee, with the actor utilizing “glued-on” prosthetics instead.

DOCTOR STRANGE IS COMING BACK IN STYLE
While the original
Doctor Strange
film was pretty faithful to the Sorcerer Supreme’s comic costume, there were still slight variations. So what changes could fans see in this new suit?
Arguably, the main highlight of the costume is the Cloak of Levitation. This was already pretty accurate in the first movie, but the comics often depict it with more gold highlights and a higher collar. Strange’s suit also lacks the same vibrancy as the blue and red colors depicted in the comics, and it doesn’t bear the logo often seen on the chest of his suit. The costume designers have said in the past
they removed some of these elements
for practical reasons, but maybe there’s a chance to include some of these in the next design.
Of course, it’s also possible that this new comic accurate suit could be an entirely new look pulled from the comics. Spider-Man has seen
multiple variations of his costume
across his three MCU movies, so maybe this new look will be pulled from a completely different Doctor Strange comic run. Doctor Strange
rocked all black
in one of his most recent Marvel comics which could be a striking never before seen look for Cumberbatch in
Multiverse of Madness
.
