It seems like Warner Bros. Television Studios is heavily investing its DC properties into HBO Max, with one of the most surprising announcements being
a limited prequel series starring John Cena as Peacemaker
from James Gunn’s
The Suicide Squad
movie.
However, Warner Bros. has so much more planned for HBO Max, such as
J.J. Abrams reportedly working on shows featuring Constantine and Zatanna
. An even earlier report showed that
Geoff John would be producing a Green Lantern show for HBO Max
in association with Greg Berlanti.

shows this Green Lantern news to be (mostly) true with the series moving forward at HBO Max.

has learned that
HBO Max has given a series order to the previously reported
Green Lantern
series
.
According to
Variety
, the series will focus on multiple Green Lanterns including Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, and even Alan Scott, the very first Green Lantern from the comics.
Variety
makes note that the version of Scott in the series will be a gay man, as he is in the comics.

Other characters that will be included in the series will be fan favorites like Sinestro and Kilowog, with
“new heroes”
that will be introduced into the ranks of the Green Lantern Corps.
HBO Max has ordered a total of 10 one-hour episodes, which will be co-written and executively produced by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with the former acting as showrunner.
Berlanti Productions, headed by Greg Berlanti, who co-wrote and co-produced the original
Green Lantern
movie, will produce the series alongside with Warner Bros. Television.

What is interesting to note is that Geoff Johns is not mentioned as one of the executive produces of this show as initially reported months ago. Additionally, two of the most well known Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, were not included with the various other Green Lantern Corps members. This would imply that a movie starring either or both of them could still be in the cards with Geoff Johns producing that instead of this show.

Additionally, unless most of this movie will be taking place on Earth, this will be by far one of the most expensive shows that HBO Max will produce if it will truly be about the Green Lantern Corps and its many members on their adventures in space.
