Snyder’s most recent chat revealed that a movie with a whopping four-hour-two-minute run time
still had a deleted scene
, explaining
the missing
“We live in a society”
line from Jared Leto’s Joker
. Less frustrating news releases have shown off never-before-seen pieces of concept art for
characters like the enigmatic Granny Goodness
, who made a short cameo in the Snyder Cut.

THE INSPIRATIONS BEHIND DESAAD
Concept artist Jerad Marantz took to Instagram to share a piece of art depicting one of the original designs for DeSaad from Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The look takes inspiration from both his original comic book design and the iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader.
DeSaad’s design from the pages of DC Comics had a much more human look with a colorful outfit, although the Snyder Cut’s rendition kept his classic hood. He also has a mechanical box on his chest with tubes poking out of either side.

The mechanical box is not only reminiscent of DeSaad’s comic book visuals, but it also pays tribute to Star Wars big bad Darth Vader. Fans know this box was used to help keep Vader alive after his transformation from Anakin Skywalker in
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
.

While DeSaad’s look turned into something very different than this in Snyder’s final cut, both the original comic character and Darth Vader seem to be quite appropriate places to take inspiration from.
Arriving in the comics about six years before the adventures of the Jedi and the Sith, DeSaad’s original look came as something much different from what fans see him as today. The changes to his features have been quite drastic over the years before he debuted in the Snyder Cut, turning out to be quite terrifying in his first live-action appearance.

As for Darth Vader, it only makes sense that some early concept art would take inspiration from
arguably the most popular movie villain of all time
.
The Sith lord was featured in
all three trilogies of the Skywalker Saga
, most notably as
the primary antagonist in the original trilogy
. While he didn’t come from a comic book of his own, comic book movie antagonists are often compared to Vader, especially as their popularity starts to rival that of the legendary Star Wars big bad.
