the hype is building for next month’s streaming release of
Zack Snyder’s Justice League
. Over most of the past year, director Zack Snyder has been more than open about
sharing what’s coming in this new edition of the maligned 2017 theatrical film
, revealing images and stories quite freely.
Mostly included in these looks at the film have been views at characters that weren’t a part of the original movie,
particularly in the case of Jared Leto’s Joker
, of whom Snyder has spoken at length about for the last few weeks. Other social media outings have brought simple looks into the editing and post-production studios as well as peaks at heroes like
Ben Affleck as the Knightmare version of Batman
.

Justice League
director Zack Snyder shared a special piece of art depicting the story of Superman throughout the DCEU. Shown with the same visual effects as the scout ship from
Man of Steel
, this image shows most of the hero’s history from his first two canon appearances.
On the left is both the school bus that Kal El saved from the river and the Kryptonian world engine from
Man of Steel
. The right depicts the House of El command key and Batman’s Kryptonite staff from
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
, as well as Kelex’s liquid geo display of the Earth and moon and the tornado that killed Jonathan Kent from
Man of Steel
.

The image is complete with a statuesque look at Superman himself, which can be seen below:

THE DCEU’S ORIGIN STORY RETOLD
Superman is arguably the most prominent and important member of the Justice League
in the comics and on-screen, and it’s clear that Snyder is trying to make this the case again. It still manages to bring up the question of why he was killed off in only his second DCEU appearance, but that’s an entirely different story in itself.

It seems most likely that this scene will come sometime before Superman is brought back to life since the team uses the scout ship to help them in this difficult endeavor. The best guess here is that this scene will extend on the rebirth sequence from the theatrical cut, giving more depth and emotion to the Kryptonian warrior’s story before his sacrifice in
Batman v Superman
.
With the Snyder Cut confirmed to be just over four hours long
, this retelling will certainly have more than enough time to dive into key plot points that may have been rushed in director Joss Whedon’s 2017 cut. It will be interesting to find out how Snyder manages to expand on that story while also adding so much new material that wasn’t originally planned nearly five years ago.
