Thor: Love And Thunder
is going to be quite a massive film, and calling the film one of the most anticipated upcoming MCU projects would be a reckless understatement.
The fourth
Thor
outing is set to release in February 2022,
and it just started filming in Australia
. It marks the return of Taika Waititi in the director’s chair, and is the first time an MCU mainstay will be getting their fourth solo film.

One of the most exciting aspects of the upcoming project is that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be joined by some familiar faces. The Asgardian god will be accompanied by none other than the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves in his new adventure, with
Star-Lord
,
Drax
,
Rocket
, and
Nebula
all confirmed to be a part of the film.
Nowhere to be seen, however, is the
Guardians
director James Gunn. He’s usually around to lend a hand with the characters that he brought into the MCU spotlight, but there’s been no word if he’s involved at all with
Thor 4
.
Thanks to one of Gunn’s typical Twitter outings, though, it’s been revealed that the Guardians
director may be more involved in the next Thor film than anyone initially thought.

James Gunn was asked
on Twitter
if he’s been involved with the Guardians’ side of production for the Chris Hemsworth-led
Thor: Love and Thunder
, to which he admitted that he has been doing some consulting with director Taika Waititi.
“[The characters] are in great hands with Taika Waititi.”
Yes. Have been doing. They’re in great hands with @TaikaWaititi. https://t.co/AtGv7OQJkw
WHAT THIS MEANS
The news that James Gunn is in fact helping out with the Guardians in
Thor: Love and Thunder
isn’t all that surprising. After all, the
Guardians of the Galaxy
director has been involved with all of their prior MCU appearances in one way or another.

Nevertheless, it’s great to see that Marvel is keeping up the trend. Having Gunn involved in Waititi’s film ensures consistency in the cosmic team’s on-screen portrayal, while also helping inform Gunn’s next outing with them in
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
.
The Guardians were leaving Earth with Thor the last time fans saw them. Given the Guardians’ development in the last two
Avengers
films, one can only assume that Hemsworth’s Thor has grown close with our rag-tag group of outlaws. It’s going to be a blast watching them tackle what is sure to become a world-ending threat in the form of
Gorr The God Butcher
. Fingers crossed that the Guardians play a significant role in the film, and aren’t just there for a few extra side scenes.
