The Marvel Cinematic Universe is mere days away from
its long-awaited return to mainstream media
. On January 15,
the Disney+ premiere of
WandaVision
will begin a streak of ten new projects releasing in theaters and on Disney+ before a cool dozen more arriving in 2022.
One of the most anticipated projects coming next year is the Disney+ series
Moon Knight
. The solo series centered around Marc Spector will be one of the MCU’s first looks into the supernatural while diving deep into Egyptian mythology as Spector is imbued with his powers. This will all come together under the direction of
Egyptian up-and-coming director Mohamed Diab
.

Over the last couple of months, multiple outlets have reported that Oscar Isaac had been in talks for the lead in the show, although no official word came from Disney or Marvel regarding his finalized role. That all changes with a social media blast from one of the show’s important behind-the-scenes figures.

In a new post on his personal Instagram account, cinematographer Gregory Middleton confirmed that he will be taking on lead camera duties for the Disney+ Marvel Studios show
Moon Knight
. In the same post, he confirmed that Oscar Isaac will officially play the lead role of Marc Spector, included in the caption below:
“Well the secret is out. It’s an honor to be a part of introducing a new character to the MCU Moon Knight. Who says cinematographers worry about white costumes! … not if they are complex characters played by an amazing performer like Osacr Isaac . Thank you director Mohamed Diab and the MCU for inviting me aboard.”
The post comes from Budapest, Hungary, indicating that the series will film there,
as previously reported in November
.

Oscar Isaac’s casting as Moon Knight
was one of the most notable news releases missing from December’s Disney Investor Day event, especially considering that Marvel CCO Kevin Feige confirmed castings for
Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan

Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop

Tatiana Maslany as She-Hulk
, amongst others. Now that this news is coming from somebody as deeply involved with the show as the cinematographer, it’s about as set into stone as it can be without an official announcement.

Middleton has some high-profile experience
over the last few years on major TV shows like
Game of Thrones
and
Watchmen
on HBO, which sets him up nicely for his upcoming work with Marvel Studios. Both of the previous shows were a little darker in tone and picture as well, likely in a similar realm to how Marvel is attempting to portray their on-screen Moon Knight.
In terms of what will come on screen, it appears that the excitement can come back for Oscar Isaac taking on the lead role of Marc Spector. After rising to fame playing Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, this will be the most intense role of his career, even when considering his appearances in the upcoming
Dune
and
Metal Gear Solid
. Isaac will embody one of the most intriguing personalities in Marvel Comics as the show explores both ancient Egyptian mythology and the vigorous mental stress Spector will experience.

will reportedly begin production
in London in March 2021, and the series set to release on Disney+ sometime in 2022.
