Now, there is finally news in the form of a very simple title change that could end up implying something more about this franchise.

, dropping the prefix. The outlet also noticed that despite the title change, the release date of February 21, 2021 is still in place.

WHAT THIS MEANS

This might not seem like much, considering the studio is simply

dropping “The” from the title

of the movie and having it be called

Eternals

. But, one interesting point of comparison in the MCU is that the first Avengers movie was actually titled

The Avengers

. But, for sequels, “The” was dropped too with

Avengers: Age of Ultron

and

Avengers: Infinity War

and so one.

Simply speculation, but this could have been because Disney realized that having a movie titled

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

could have been boarding on having the keyword “Avengers” lost in the shuffle. So, it could be that Marvel Studios are preemptively removing the prefix from the title in the event that sequels are made with subtitles like the majority of other MCU movies.

Additionally, this could possibly mean that a trailer for

Eternals

might be coming out soon, since Marvel Studios is getting the title in order for trademark reasons in likely preparation for the marketing and merchandise.
