Following its release in March 2017,

Mass Effect: Andromeda

was hit with a whirlwind of criticism from both reviewers and fans of the franchise. Whether it was the extremely offsetting facial feature settings or the ridiculously buggy standard at release, the game failed to reach the heights that had been set for it. In the time since its release, news regarding the future of the franchise has been next to non-existent, with the only scheduled released as of now set to be

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition,

a remaster of the original trilogy of games.

With The Game Awards taking place, viewers can regularly expect reveals of brand-new games in between the announcement of which games have won what, and fans of the

Mass Effect

series were hit with a huge surprise at the end of the show.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Fans of the

Mass Effect

franchise will be gleaming regarding the reveal of a new game within the series, however, it’s safe to say a large majority of them will approach this news with a sign of caution. This disastrous release of

Mass Effect: Andromeda

will have left a large amount of the player base losing confidence in BioWare, and will be hesitant to build excitement for a game they know nothing about.

In terms of what the game may potentially be formatted as it is difficult to tell. The franchise has previously included mobile games within the series, through the release of

Mass Effect: Infiltrator

on both iOS and Android devices, so there’s potential that BioWare may continue down this route again. If they are to dedicate themselves to a standard console release, something presumably a majority of the fan base would prefer, an early announcement makes logical sense, giving fans time to build hype whilst forgetting the failures of

Mass Effect: Andromeda,

whilst also giving BioWare time to perfect their previous mistakes.
