Loki

The devil character is seen bearing long green robes, sitting on a peculiar throne surrounded by flames.

Mephisto (Marvel)

In the comics, Mephisto is a Satan-inspired immortal who literally lives in a section of the Marvel Universe called Hell. He has a number of magical abilities that give him the powers of superstrength and illusion manipulation, and he is often butting heads with title heroes like Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and the Fantastic Four.

WHAT THIS MEANS

Given what is known about the

Loki

series, it is likely that this stained-glass artwork originates from an alternate timeline. The trailer suggests that Loki will be hired by the TIme Variance Authority to explore different timelines through MCU history. Therefore, this may be one where Mephisto reigns supreme.

Some have speculated

that Mephisto could make his MCU debut in

WandaVision

, potentially being the source of Wanda’s torment in the series. If this is true, and Wanda overcomes the magic user by the end of her series, perhaps

Loki

could explore a timeline where Mephisto came out on top. The imagery of this stained-glass seems to have religious connotations, bearing a lot of similarities to artwork of the clergy. There is a possibility that Mephisto could have used a potential victory to pass his influence on the entire world, forcing all to obey and worship him.

As noted above, Mephisto is a prominent comic book villain, being a magic user that has caused mayhem for many heroes. The devillish villain is an incredibly powerful foe, so a potential appearance could spell trouble for Loki, as well as other heroes later on in the MCU.

Perhaps Mephisto will indeed rear his demonic head when

Loki

launches on Disney+ in May 2021.
