debuted in theaters this past December, and with the release of its novelization a few months after, there’s been an abundance of news to come out concerning unused ideas for the film.
Whether it was the novel
elaborating on Rey’s training from Leia
and offering a
moment between Kylo Ren and Chewbacca
, the Skywalker Legacy documentary
revealing hidden easter eggs
, or the infinite concept art unveiling potentially significant moments from the film, it’s clear that imagination from the production team was highly encouraged from
Episode IX
’s producers and creators.

The concept art mentioned above has given audiences a different perspective on what could’ve been. The most prominent images shown to fans have been the
Dark Rey art
, a version of the character that was only seen briefly in the film. Some other pictures have surfaced that offer
another look at her red, villainous lightsaber
. It doesn’t seem like these designers are done sharing more of their work from movie, as more has recently been disclosed.

Bob Cheshire, a concept artist from
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
, took to
Instagram and presented the fandom with an additional look at Rey
with what seems to be Kylo Ren’s infamous lightsaber. Also in the image is what appears to be a shrine for another laser sword, but details about the object were not given. In his caption for the post, Cheshire only had this to say:
“Concept art is a question mark, not a full stop.”

WHAT THIS MEANS
There’s very little context for this drawing, but it’s a stellar piece of work that continues the spirit of the previous Dark Rey concept art. While this character does seem like Rey herself, and not her Sith counterpart, it raises the question on where exactly this would’ve taken place in the film. It could’ve occurred when the Resistance heroes boarded the First Order Star Destroyer to save Chewbacca and Rey entered Kylo Ren’s quarters, but we can’t know for sure.

The tri-blade design of the saber she’s holding certainly indicates that it is indeed Ren’s, but once again, it’s difficult to speculate on what this scene would feature, especially when you consider the other sword shown here. The dark, gloomy shades may also suggest that the setting is in fact Emperor Palpatine’s hidden room in the Death Star, where the Jedi has a horrific vision of herself and possible future.
While no one can be certain of the image’s intent, this concept art will undoubtedly continue to peek the interest of the Star Wars community, particularly those who were left unsatisfied after watching the final Skywalker Saga film or from not getting enough of Dark Rey.
