One of the most consistent traits of the entire movie industry is the idea of secrecy. Before a film’s release, the entire cast and crew always have rigorous set guidelines to what can be said about their projects in order to

avoid any kind of spoilers

for fans.

Blockbuster superhero movies are even more vigilant about avoiding spoilers than any in the film world, even going so far as to not let actors read the entire script or hiding when and where they are shooting. One of the newest stars of the DCEU recently had his own experience with that kind of secrecy, about which he has just opened up in detail.

star Robert Pattinson detailed his experience working with director Christopher Nolan, with whom he filmed the new sci-fi thriller

Tenet

. He described how Nolan is so secretive about all of his movies, leading to a point where he had to lie to Nolan about going in for a screen test for

The Batman

. Pattinson gave these quotes about that moment:

“And then I had to be really secretive about Batman stuff. So I had to lie to Chris about having to go for a screen test – I said I had a family emergency. And as soon as I said ‘it’s a family emergency’ he said: ‘You’re doing the Batman audition, aren’t you?’”

WHAT THIS MEANS

Even while Pattinson also mentioned the fact that Nolan is

“so secretive about everything to do with his movies,”

it’s a story that would make most people chuckle seeing the instant connection between star and director. Nolan famously directed the Christian Bale-led

Dark Knight

trilogy from 2005 to 2012, so his secretive nature fit in perfectly making three of the most successful superhero movies of the modern era.

Not much is known yet about the newest Batman solo movie in the DCEU, but Pattinson will be embodying a younger version of the hero as he tackles no less than

three of the most iconic villains

from the Batman comics. No exact timeframe for the film has been revealed, but it seems to be taking place long before the hero’s other DCEU stories.

Pattinson has also

compared the tone of this movie

to Nolan’s trilogy, along with DCEU regular Zack Snyder’s version of the hero. Using more of the hero’s detective roots while still keeping a similarly dark and gritty tone as precious iterations, the new entry is set to be something completely new and different in the Caped Crusader’s cinematic catalog.

The Batman

is currently
