After countless delays, the anticipation for Matt Reeves'

The Batman

is through the roof. The first trailer for Robert Pattinson’s upcoming debut as the caped crusader instantly went viral following its release at DC Fandome.

This film has gone through countless changes since its initial conception. The project initially starred Ben Affleck both under the cowl and in the directing chair as he was set to go up against Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke.

However, Affleck first dropped out as director leaving Reeves to take up the chair, before departing the suit leaving the mantle of Batman to go to

Twilight

star Robert Pattinson.

Reeves is set to create his own entirely new take on Gotham as he introduced an entirely new cast which includes Pattinson as Batman, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

But that isn’t Reeves’ only current DC project as the director is hard-at-work on a Gotham PD spin-off series to his upcoming movie which will directly tie into the plot and further expand the new version of the iconic city. Details of the series remain scarce as of now but a recent report seems to have revealed the first details of the show’s lead characters.

GOTHAM PD SERIES CASTING TWO LEAD CHARACTERS

An exclusive report from

The Illuminerdi

has revealed information from their sources regarding the casting of two lead characters for the Gotham PD series.

The series is said to star a black female lead who will be aged between 35 and 45. The character is said to be a former detective for the GCPD, now taking up the position of district attorney for Gotham City.

Meanwhile, the male lead of the show will be a white detective working under Commissioner James Gordon, aged from 30 to 40.

Gotham PD has currently yet to set an official title, but The Illuminerdi confirms the storyline will tie directly into Matt Reeves'

The Batman

and will begin shooting this Summer.

WHO ARE THESE CHARACTERS?

With shooting seemingly just a few months away, fans likely aren’t far off learning more about the upcoming series, likely seeing confirmation of which actors will be taking up these unnamed roles.

While these descriptions are fairly vague, making it hard to determine who these characters are for sure, it’s been speculated the two may be Janice Porter and Marcus Driver, who both originate from the

Gotham Central

comic series.

As

The Batman

is said to be a detective story starring the caped crusader, it’s possible this interlinked spin-off may show the official Police investigation behind the same case. With the series and movie being strongly connected, characters from one may very well show up in the other to form a weaving narrative.

It’s extremely likely Jeffrey Wright’s Commissioner Gordon will play a role in the series, however, could take up a smaller role to avoid similarities to Fox’s

Gotham

series which not long wrapped up its final season.

The untitled Gotham PD series is yet to set an official release date, but

The Batman

will release on March 4, 2022, as long as it can avoid any further delays.
