Despite lockdowns causing all Marvel productions to come to a halt, details are still emerging surrounding the upcoming release of

Thor: Love and Thunder

. The film was recently moved up to a new release date of February 11, 2022,

which was announced in conjunction

with Sony delaying the upcoming

Spider-Man 3

to November 5, 2021. The film’s director Taika Waititi has

continued to release snippets

of what we can expect from the script as well as concept art that

reveals new designs for Miek and New Asgard

. New comments from Waititi have given some new updates on how the film’s pre-production is progressing amid the recent delay…

In an interview with TotalFilm via GamesRadar

, Waititi commented on the tendency for film productions to be rushed:

“But the other thing is, there are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don’t have as much time as you’d want to have on the script and things like that.

While Waititi was unable to reveal any new details about the script, he did comment on how quarantining efforts were affecting progress of the film.

“We’re still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it’s good to just keep writing, and then you know, we’ll have a really, really good script. And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you’re always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we’ve given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sort of things, so we may as well use it.”

WHAT THIS MEANS

From his comments, it is clear that Taika Waititi is making the most of social distancing. Rushed productions have been known to result in less-than-stellar end products. This has been seen previously in the MCU, such as with the post-production of

Black Panther

. Due to the final battle between Killmonger and the titular hero being significantly altered prior to release, the CGI had to be completely started from scratch. This lead to a much lower quality version of the special effects for this sequence in comparison to the rest of the film.

Whilst

Thor: Love and Thunder

hasn’t reached that point just yet, Waititi’s comments and Marvel’s decision to delay the film, assure that the

Thor 4

will be given plenty of time to develop and be the best film that it can be. It seems as though the pandemic has provided somewhat of a silver lining for Waititi, as this will allow him to craft and rework

Love and Thunder'

s story without the worry of having to push the film out for imminent release.

Recent comments from Chris Hemsworth

stating that the script is “one of the best [he’s] read in years” also means that extra time will only make the script better. Ultimately, once productions begin to start up again, it is clear that Waititi, and his cast and crew, will ensure that

Thor: Love and Thunder

will be one hell of a ride.
