While

speaking with Entertainment Weekly

,

The Mandalorian

star Pedro Pascal bared that the upcoming season will

“start very directly”

after the events of the season 1 finale while also teasing that Din Djarin is

“going into very dangerous territory.”

“We start very directly after the first [season] and he’s going into very dangerous territory. He is very much a passenger to the experience in unexpected ways — not knowing what’s to come, not knowing how much or how best to protect the Child. We don’t know how far he will go to do that, and they’re finding new ways to push the envelope.”

Pascal pointed out that the motivations of Mando will be tested throughout the second season, with the character

“discovering the question”

of

“What do you want?”

The Mandalorian

director Dave Filoni also chimed in by saying that the character’s motivations

“isn’t clear to him or me,”

and it will be

“surprising how they do react.”

Pascal: “On a moment-to-moment basis, he’s discovering that question: ‘What do you want?’”

Dave Filoni: “That isn’t clear to him, or to me. We think we know how the characters are going to react, and it can be surprising how they do react.”

WHAT THIS MEANS

Based on Pascal’s reveal, it appears that at least the first set of episodes of

The Mandalorian

season 2 will shy away from the time jump element that was predominant during the debut season.

During the first season, the presence of time jumps weren’t entirely addressed in-universe, but it was clear during the latter half that so much time had passed throughout the adventures of Din Djarin and The Child. This was evident during

the seventh episode

of the inaugural season, which shows how Kuill took some time in fixing IG-11 and by pointing out that Baby Yoda hadn’t changed much since their last encounter. It remains to be seen if the second season will still include time jumps, but the relentless pursuit of Moff Gideon to regain The Child should signify that there will be less fast forwards this time around.

Meanwhile, Pascal’s remarks about the motivations of Mando on how to move forward with protecting The Child should serve as an interesting character arc that will surely be explored during this season. It seems that there will come at a time that Mando needs to balance between the Code and protecting Baby Yoda, and there’s a chance that

the rumored presence of Boba Fett

or even Moff Gideon could come into conflict with that ordeal.

Regardless, the dynamic of Mando and The Child will still be the main focus this season, and fans can’t wait to find out how the looming threats will come to shake the relationship of the characters once again.
