James Gunn’s response to a fan’s complaint about a 1.85 aspect ratio listed for
The Suicide Squad
earlier today revealed some surprising and historic information about the 2021 film.
That’s IMAX, man. You get a bigger screen (it’s actually more 1.90). Wouldn’t you rather we did this than cut off the edges like most films do, so you’re not seeing the full movie in IMAX?
When asked by another fan on Twitter just how much of the film is in IMAX, Gunn replied with the following, confirming that “all” of the movie is in the expanded ratio:
All of it.
WHAT THIS MEANS
If this information is what it sounds like,
The Suicide Squad
will be the third superhero film ever to be shot entirely in IMAX, joining the ranks of Marvel’s
Avengers: Infinity War
and
Avengers: Endgame

We know that Warner Bros. gave Gunn a great deal of freedom and unwavering support for this film, a point Gunn touched on during the film’s panel at the DC FanDome. A DC film shot in IMAX further confirms their confidence in his project and the need for it to be seen in this fashion.
Gunn is also known for his unique style, as evidenced by the
Guardians of the Galaxy
films and his previous filmography before them. Fans will surely be interested to see how that style is complimented by the full immersion IMAX provides.
