Marvel Studios’ venture into storytelling on Disney+ has taken the world by storm, especially in the last couple of weeks, with its first streaming show
WandaVision
. The self-proclaimed unusual couple’s wacky life in suburbia is taking on levels of insanity never before seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe while everything going on outside Westview is firmly setting the show as a true sequel to the Infinity Saga.
After three episodes exploring Wanda and Vision’s lives as a married couple, paying tribute to TV sitcoms from the 1950s to the 1970s, Episodes 4 and 5 gave the first look into a post-
Avengers: Endgame
real-world, one fully affected by The Blip.
S.W.O.R.D. came into play as an established force in the MCU
with Monica Rambeau and her team investigating (and instigating) Wanda Maximoff and her alternate reality.

All of that came before not only the biggest cameo yet in Phase 4 but an absolute game-changer for the MCU’s future,
Evan Peters as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver
. This cameo was doubly shocking considering how relatively early in the season it arrived with Season 1 of
WandaVision
still at least four episodes away from its conclusion.
A report from early February
detailed that there is a surprise cameo on the way that could rival that of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in the Season 2 finale of
The Mandalorian.
This leads most of us to believe that a cameo of this magnitude won’t arrive until one of the last episodes of
WandaVision
Season 1, even taking into account how monumental Peters’ return as Quicksilver from the Fox
X-Men
movies was. There are some clear options for who could be making a cameo with how many connections this show reportedly has to the greater MCU, and any one of them would make for one of the MCU’s most surprising moments.
Without further ado, The Direct dives into a dozen potential characters that could make a cameo in
WandaVision
before Season 1 comes to a close.
**All the options below relate to WandaVision via plot details up through Episode 5 or news from other MCU projects that connect to the series, whether the characters already exist in the MCU or not.
MAGNETO
Evan Peters’ inclusion in this series as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver busted the door wide open for the potential of other characters from the FoX-Men universe to come into play alongside him. Now that this fantasy is reality, why not bring in Pietro’s father from the
X-Men
movies and both his and Wanda’s father from the comics, the villainous Magneto.
Wanda’s parents are a mystery in the MCU due to the studio having to rework her X-Men origin story due the rights issues that existed upon her arrival nearly seven years ago. While a total retcon of Wanda as a mutant may not be in the cards, there’s still a chance that a multiversal Magneto could come into play with Pietro in the mix.
WandaVision
even utilized an intriguing Easter Egg in Episode 5
where Wanda utilized her powers with the exact same hand motions as Magneto in both 2000’s
X-Men
and 2019’s
Dark Phoenix
. With endless possibilities in this wild ride, a father/daughter connection between Wanda and Erik Lehnsherr may not be out of the question.
TONY STARK
This next entry seems to be one of the more unlikely ones due to the current standing of Tony Stark in the MCU. Not only did the billionaire-playboy snap with the Infinity Gauntlet in
Avengers: Endgame
, unquestionably ending his life, Robert Downey, Jr. has spoken on multiple occasions that he is almost certainly done with his commitment to the MCU after more than a decade.
The main avenue to this kind of cameo is the fact that
WandaVision
is focusing some of its attention on Wanda’s history through the MCU, most notably the experiences that turned her into the woman she is today. This has been shown through the commercials that have been used in all but one episode thus far, the first one being
the toaster made by Stark Industries
. Additionally,
the drone used to spy on Wanda in Episode 5
was made by Stark Industries.
In
Avengers: Age of Ultron
, Wanda revealed that she and Pietro survived the missile attack that killed their parents in Sokovia and that the missiles were made by Tony Stark. Iron Man may be a distant memory to those continuing on in Phase 4, but considering how ingrained he is with Wanda’s past, his potential return could make a serious impact on Wanda in either a good way or a bad way.
REED RICHARDS
The third entry on this list comes as another character here who has not only never been seen before in the MCU, but never explicitly mentioned either. However, there is one line of dialogue that could signal a potential debut for one of the most anticipated characters in the MCU’s not-too-distant future: Reed Richards.
Upon Monica Rambea’s return to S.W.O.R.D. in Episode 3 of
WandaVision
, she speaks with acting Director Tyler Hayward about the numbers for the astronaut training program. Hayward replies that half of the personnel was lost in The Blip and
“half of those remaining have lost their nerve.”
This confirms that S.W.O.R.D. is already active in outer space,
which is the birthplace of the Fantastic Four in the comics
.
Marvel Studios'
Fantastic Four
is not set to release in theaters until 2023 at the earliest. There is no set timeframe for production, and the only name attached is Jon Watts as the director after his run on the
Spider-Man
trilogy. However, no character has been fan-cast as passionately over the past few years than Reed Richards, coming with an almost unanimous selection of John Krasinski to play Mr. Fantastic.
Richards’ three teammates could come at a later date, but Marvel could take their casting announcements to an entirely new level by introducing Krasinski as the surprise cameo of this series. It may be a bit of a long-shot,
even considering the rumored
The Office
tribute episode
planned later in the season, but that doesn’t make it any less exciting to think about!
TOM HOLLAND, TOBEY MAGURIE, OR ANDREW GARFIELD’S SPIDER-MEN
A multi-franchise MCU trilogy is rumored to be taking shape
in the form of
WandaVision
, the untitled
Spider-Man 3
, and
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
. Looking at how
Spider-Man 3
will be the last film of 2021 after
WandaVision
kicked things off, what if any of the Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, or Andrew Garfield’s web-slingers rumored to appear in this threequel found their way into
WandaVision
?
Elizabeth Olsen herself seemed open to the possibility that
Scarlet Witch could be involved in
Spider-Man 3
, considering how many characters will already be in the fray. This could very well be a two-way street, especially with the multiverse so clearly in play.
Both properties take place in the upper Northeast portion of the USA with Westview, NJ and New York City being not too far from one another. While it would be quite a far distance to travel (especially for Maguire and Garfield), this series is proving in every episode that anything is possible.
Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch haven’t directly teamed up in the MCU, but
it would certainly be some way to tie their franchises together
with an appearance in this show. Wanda is arguably the most powerful Avenger, but she may not turn down some assistance from one of the most popular Avengers out there.
AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON’S QUICKSILVER
Evan Peters’ Quicksilver making the transition from the Fox
X-Men
universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was a game-changer, but it’s still unclear how he specifically ties into the story of the MCU’s Wanda Maximoff. There is also the possibility that, with how crazy this show is getting, the MCU version of her brother could show up as well.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Pietro Maximoff only enjoyed a post-credits scene and one movie’s worth of action before being killed off in 2015’s
Avengers: Age of Ultron
.
Although ATJ has seemed certain that he won’t return to the MCU
, the door for his return is undoubtedly open after the events of Episode 5.
One of the big themes of
WandaVision
thus far has been Wanda dealing with the traumatic events of her past as she creates this new reality for herself and Vision. From the trailers to Evan Peters’ Quicksilver showing up, the series has found a way to dive into
the deepest and darkest places in Wanda’s mind

Aaron Taylor-Johnson coming back to his MCU role of Pietro may be a long-shot, but we can certainly dream big with what Marvel is doing in Phase 4!
ULTRON (HUMAN FORM)
As mentioned in ATJ’s section, one of the most important aspects of this show has been Wanda dealing with the traumatic events of her past. If we’re looking at some individuals responsible for that trauma, how could we not include Ultron?

Avengers: Age of Ultron
, the AI-turned-mad robot enlisted the help of Wanda and her brother to assist him in destroying the Avengers. Once Wanda realized that Ultron created the Vision as a better version of himself used to end the world, she quickly got out of that partnership and helped the Avengers defeat the villain.
Unfortunately, Ultron killed her brother Pietro and left her in a world of pain, a pain that is thoroughly being explored in
WandaVision
. And how could Ultron come back in a way that could absolutely break Wanda momentarily? I’ll tell you how: as a human!
Paul Bettany’s Vision has spent plenty of time in human form through this series, which could lead to the same thing happening with a potential Ultron return by James Spader. With the episode paying tribute to
The Office
that was mentioned earlier, Spader could even make a double comeback in a dual portrayal of the robotic super villain and Robert California from the 2000’s sitcom!
No matter what the details entail,
Ultron’s return would certainly bring the house down
for an already distressed Scarlet Witch in this show.
HAWKEYE
Getting to characters that wouldn’t cause Wanda and Vision trauma with a return, a great option for a cameo would be Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye. Not only is he one of the continuing stars of Phase 4, but he also has more of a personal connection to the couple than almost anybody.
After being skeptical of Wanda and Pietro in
Avengers: Age of Ultron
, Clint Barton formed a close bond with the Scarlet Witch in the following movies, particularly
after Pietro was killed saving Barton’s life
. Clint has always helped Wanda not only stay grounded while dealing with her powers but has also served as a mentor for her to lean on for friendship and support.
The two were last seen after Tony Stark’s funeral in
Avengers: Endgame
bonding with each other over the losses of Natasha Romanoff and Vision, and it’s obvious that Wanda would see Clint as an ally, even through what she’s experiencing in
WandaVision
. It’s unclear where Hawkeye is right now before his own solo series begins later in 2021, but if he finds out that Wanda’s in trouble, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him come to her aid.
We’ll just have to wait and see if any arrows begin flying over the next few episodes but count the former SHIELD archer as a strong candidate for this cameo appearance.
CAPTAIN MARVEL
While most of these entries connect back to the show’s leading woman, as they should, this next one would add to the story of a fast-rising star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau.
Monica is taking on a pivotal role in this show as a top-ranking captain at S.W.O.R.D., and she is confirmed to be a part of the MCU’s future for a long time to come. While it’s unclear if Rambeau has gained her powers from the comics yet, she is confirmed to join the cast of 2022’s
Captain Marvel 2
, and
it’s the lead character of that particular movie that leads to her inclusion here
.
During Episode 5, Monica spoke on how Wanda could have taken out Thanos herself in
Avengers: Endgame
before Jimmy Woo chimes in with
“I’d argue that Captain Marvel came close.”
The look on Monica’s face after that namedrop indicates some deep unresolved issues with Carol Danvers, and while those details are murky right now, it will be a plot point that fans will keep a close eye on for the foreseeable future.
Even if Carol only shows up for a few minutes to help with the epic final battle of
WandaVision
, the opportunity for her to reunite with Monica Rambeau is too good to pass up. This may not even be a great meeting at first, considering
they may not have seen each other for nearly 30 years
, but the intrigue and tension could make for some interesting conflict should that meeting come to fruition.
Carol Danvers is making a name for herself as one of the most powerful Avengers in the MCU, and a cameo from her would take this show’s status through the stratosphere.
BARON MORDO
Chiwitel Ejiofor’s Baron Mordo makes for the third and final villain entry on this list, one that even has the potential to be the ultimate antagonist of
WandaVision
.
When we last saw Mordo in 2016’s
Doctor Strange
, he was starting his worldwide quest to take any hint of magical abilities away from those he deemed unworthy,
feeling that the world has
“too many sorcerers.”
He is also confirmed to be coming back for
more insanity in 2022’s
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
, although there is no word on how big his role will be.
Just imagine Mordo finding out about the Westview Anomaly and putting the pieces together. Learning of a powerful person creating an entire reality from the ground up seems to be something he would want to change as quickly as he could. It wouldn’t even matter whether Wanda’s powers are magic-based or not, Mordo would be compelled to go after her.
Even though Mordo may be a somewhat left-field option considering he hasn’t been discussed in the MCU in over four years, his return in this show would bring some unbelievable drama and magic (literally). Wanda would certainly have to bring her A-game against a former Master of the Mystic Arts.
DOCTOR STRANGE
Although Mordo would make for a formidable foe fighting Wanda Maximoff, the top choice on this list comes from the very same franchise as Chiwitel Ejiofor’s villain. This is nearly a unanimous top choice amongst us at The Direct, and he appears to be a nearly seamless fit into this series, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Stephen Strange.
The Sorceror Supreme is about to play a key role through the entirety of Phase 4, and is already
confirmed to team up with Wanda in
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
. He will also be involved in the plot of
Spider-Man 3
, and considering
how these two movies are set to connect with
WandaVision
, it seems only logical that he fills this major cameo role.
Whether he comes in only for a few seconds à la Nick Fury in
Iron Man
, or if he actually assists Wanda in her mission for this show, Strange will be a part of Wanda’s life in Phase 4 and beyond. Taking into account that
Wanda’s current path may be taking her on a villainous diversion
, Strange could even be the one to reel her back in before he asks for her help in his next endeavor.
AND THE WANDAVISION CAMEO WINNER IS…
Taking all of these exciting MCU characters into account, our team members feel that the most likely of these candidates for the
WandaVision
cameo are Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel.
Carol Danvers’ personal connection to Monica Rambeau would make for some incredible drama along with the action set to come in the next few weeks, and the Sorcerer Supreme will be playing an integral role through all Phase 4 with the Multiverse coming into play. Both of their upcoming solo movies are also set to arrive in 2022 following
WandaVision
, and a cameo for either would amp up the anticipation for both feature films.
No matter who fills this major cameo role,
WandaVision
is already finding ways to keep the drama and anticipation churning every single week. With at least four, possibly five, episodes of this groundbreaking series remaining before Season 1 ends, fans and media alike will have their eyes plastered to their Disney+ apps to learn which MCU star steals the show in Marvel Studios’ debut TV series.
