Marvel Studios kicked off Phase 4 in early 2021 with likely its wackiest project to date.
Disney+’s
WandaVision
took fans on a captivating ride through multiple eras for eight thrilling weeks. Paying tribute to
the history of American TV sitcoms
while exploring the ideas of grief and loss within the MCU, the team behind this show brought something truly special to life
that is still being talked about more than a month after its conclusion

While this series brought plenty of joy and entertainment to MCU fans by reuniting Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff with Paul Bettany’s Vision, there was always the feeling that their love couldn’t last forever,
considering Vision’s living arrangement, or lack thereof
. This proved true in the end, as Wanda gave up her entire alternate Westview reality, consequently letting Vision and both of her children go as she started her next journey.
That said, MCU farewells have never been permanent.
WE HAVE SAID GOODBYE BEFORE…
Marvel
In an appearance on
The Empire Filmroom Podcast
,
WandaVision
creator Jac Schaeffer teased the potential of Wanda and Vision rekindling their relationship in the MCU’s future.

Schaeffer mentioned how important it was to have the sense of having
“been here before with them,”
referencing Vision’s initial death in
Avengers: Infinity War
.
“When I pitched it to Paul [Bettany] I pitched it as this; him saying, ‘I’ve been all these things, what could I be next?’ That was always really important to me, and I could see it very, very clearly. And also, it was a little bit born of the fact that we’ve been here before with them, they’ve done this before, which is horrible and kind of crazy that as storytellers, we signed up to tell what could be seen as the same story over again.
The writer also teased that, as Vision implies during his goodbye,
“it does make scientific and probable sense that there will be more”
for Wanda Maximoff and Vision’s relationship:
But that was my way of sort of reconciling at that, that that’s so beautiful, this is what makes them special and magical is that they’ve been at this precipice before. Vision is a synthezoid of statistics, right? So it does make scientific and probable sense that there will be more.”
WE’LL SAY HELLO AGAIN?
Wanda and Vision have some of the most heartbreaking stories in the MCU,
both individually and as a couple
. Both were born out of dire or dark circumstances, and their time as a couple has been marred by loss, grief, and pure insanity over the last few years in real time.

With
WandaVision
taking a deep dive into the five stages of grief
, “Episode 9” highlighted the “acceptance” stage as Wanda came to terms with the fact that this latest Vision was actually her own creation. However, these quotes from Schaeffer give a glimmer of hope that the unusual couple will find their way into each other’s arms again down the line.
This could very well be the case in Wanda’s next MCU adventure
when she appears in
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
next year. With a clear trip through the multiverse set up, and with another immensely powerful being alongside her in the Sorcerer Supreme, fans could be in for even more unexpected craziness as
Wanda takes a hold of her Scarlet Witch mantle
.
All nine episodes of
WandaVision
are now available to stream on Disney+.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
will debut in theaters on March 25, 2022.
